Paramedic time!
So, yesterday was my first shift with the fire station, my first official call, and my first official patient, and my first call was a cardiac arrest! And I LOVED IT!!!!!!!! I got to do CPR, ventilate the patient, push drugs, watch him get shocked, watch him get a tube to help him breath, transport him to the hospital, and it was pretty neat! One of the medics and I almost head-butted going around a round about getting to the hospital while going lights and sirens with him doing CPR and me bagging the patient. It was Nuts! The doctor ended up calling the code, and he died. But even then I got to take out the IV, and take off the defibrillation pads. But, it was so neat to be on the call with my cardiology teacher, I was so impressed with him. He was so calm and collected, and I knew everything that was going on. there were no surprises, except for that the Emergency Room does the exact same thing that we do for Heart Attacks, except we are just not contained inside a facility. I was so impressed with the level of training that i have already. and how much i have already learned! One of the most interesting things that i found was that I felt total peace when we arrived on scene and I knew that he wasn't going to make it, I knew that he had had a great life, and that his time had come, and everything was going to work out with his family. Anyway, It was probably one of the neatest experiences of the week! Definitely a highlight!
